Star Dragon's Den: Conlangs

Information about the constructed languages created by Astaryuu

Navigation notes

This list is incomplete, and may be out of date. I'm frequently adding to my conlangs.

The links in the navbar for each conlang use FontAwesome icons to represent the following:

  • for phonology
  • for orthography
  • for dictionary
  • for grammar
  • for example sentences

Rokadong

Rokadong is one of several languages spoken by the kanvas of the Quill Kingdom. It's a Nentan language, the same family as Kairitelan, High Karanesa, Nenevesian, and Matelian. The name "Rokadong" is a portmanteau of "Rokasela" (the name of the archipelago it is spoken on) and "dong" (language).

Rokadong draws significant inspiration from Malay and other Indonesian languages. In fact, the entire phonology was borrowed wholesale from Malay lmao.

Kairitelan

Kairitelan is the main language of Kairi Island. It's closely related to Rokadong, but with several features that set it apart, such as a complete lack of the glottal stop.

Debazi

Debazi is the working language of the Republic of Debaz. It's a dialect continuum that may be in the process of splitting, and has a very convoluted writing system that is generally seen as inadequate for the current form of the language.

Debazi has a whole cocktail of inspirations: Arabic, Proto-Yucatecan, Proto-Ch'olan, and the Siouan languages. The intent of this cocktail is not only to be Pezen's version of English, but also to be a terrible language for English-language learners, combining some of the commonly cited things that make a language difficult for English native speakers. These include difficult sounds for English natives to pronounce, a somewhat complicated grammar with noun class, polypersonality, and triconsonantal roots, and a logography-abjad hybrid based on the Classical Maya writing system that is completely ill-suited for modern Debazi phonology. This last one is very reminiscent of English, which also has an orthography that does less than it ought to with regard to telling someone how to pronounce a word.

However, Debazi is not a cursed language, unlike Lunarian. While cursed languages are by their nature difficult to learn, they do so using unnatural or impossible features. Instead, Debazi is meant to be an ensemble of practically every feature that English-language learners call "the most difficult thing" about learning other languages, to be the "final boss" of naturalistic languages for the demographic I target.

Liðakuin

Liðakuin is the official language of the Fennril Federation. It's inspired by Icelandic and other Germanic languages.

Haltzeonian

Modern Haltzeonian is one of several Kardonian languages, and is specifically the national language of Haltzeon, the planet which Yankee (among others) comes from. Unlike the other languages in its family, though, Haltzeonian entirely lost its clicks, though some dialects retain them as allophones of the ejective consonants.

Lunarian

Lunarian is the official language of the Lunatic Kingdom. It's inspired by Japanese, but is made about 5 times worse than anything Japanese could come up with. This, for the record, includes the fact I had to come up with new phonetic notation for this language.
